In 1492, the Nasrid Kingdom of Granada, the last Muslim stronghold of Europe, falls victim to the conquest of the Catholic Kings, through this important crusade, becoming the «new Jerusalem of the West.» In an evangelizing and Christianizing effort, the city of Granada underwent important transformations, such as the construction of the imposing Cathedral, which shelters up to three different architectural styles, and which was erected on the site of the old Great Mosque.

Likewise, this emblematic city, symbol of the triumph of Christianity, was chosen by Queen Elizabeth as the Pantheon of Christian royalty, with the Royal Chapel being the maximum exponent of that intention.

Cathedral and Capilla Real will be protagonists in this visit for the monumental center of Granada, where we will unravel its symbolism, the architectural richness, as well as the magnificent artistic works, among which are the fabulous treasure, the spectacular marble mausoleums of Carrara or the impressive collection of flamenco paintings.

En 1492, el Reino Nazarí de Granada, último bastión musulmán de Europa, cae rendida ante la conquista de los Reyes Católicos, a través de esta importante cruzada, convirtiéndose en el “nuevo Jerusalén de Occidente”.

En un esfuerzo evangelizador y cristianizante, la ciudad de Granada sufrió importantes transformaciones, como la construcción de la imponente Catedral, la cual abriga hasta tres estilos arquitectónicos distintos, y que fue erigida sobre el emplazamiento de la antigua Mezquita Mayor

Asimismo, esta emblemática ciudad, símbolo del triunfo del cristianismo,  fue elegida por la Reina Isabel como Panteón de la realeza cristiana, siendo la Capilla Real el máximo exponente de dicha intención.

 

Catedral y Capilla Real serán, pues, protagonistas en esta visita por el centro monumental de Granada, donde desentrañaremos su simbología, la riqueza arquitectónica,  así como las magníficas obras artísticas, entre las que se encuentran el fabuloso tesoro, los espectaculares mausoleos de mármol de Carrara o la impresionante colección de pinturas flamenca.
